A polemic.

indefensible:

I think we all agree that prejudiced discrimination is bad, right? Right.

What I think is fun is watching people argue about which groups are the most discriminated against. I think that’s like the funnest thing ever.

For government-authorised systemic discrimination, the group that is shit out of luck is childless single men under the age of 30. They pay the highest proportion of their income in taxes. They use the lowest proportion of government services (almost zero). They receive little to no government assistance. As time goes on, most of the things they like to do (drink, smoke, take drugs, drive fast, hunt, fish, see bands, see live sport) are either being taxed out of existence, or the morality police are campaigning to change them so they no longer appeal to young men.

The constant message to young men is this: there is a problem in society, and it is you.

The kicker, at least in this country, is that they also kill themselves in numbers so high as to beggar belief. Yet almost nobody stands on the side of young men because they have been demonised as the source of society’s ills.

Except that they cost the most in terms of accident clean-up when they drive drunk, insurance claims when they smash their cars into each other (hooning is the term, yes?), and building jails to lock them up when they can’t stand the look on one another’s faces and have to rearrange them. If we could just lock them up from 21 to 30 so that they’d have time to break free of the testosterone poisoning, we’d all be better off.

As a child I was terribly picky, but once I left home and realize that nobody was going to make food like Mom (actually Dad, most of [...]
