“I’m not anti-Bush; I’m anti-Bush behavior. In other words, I’m against cheating, greed, cruelty, racism, imperialism, religious fundamentalism, treason, and the seemingly limitless capacity for hypocrisy shown by Bush and his administration.”
Who said that? Noam Chomsky? Al Franken? Al Sharpton?
Nope: Viggo Mortenson.
How sad is it when the truth is coming out on the gossip pages?

As if to underscore the point of Al Franken’s new book that the right-wing media is a bunch of yahoos who couldn’t find their butts with both hands, idiots are lining up to attack Franken about a letter he sent to John Ashcroft.
In the letter, Franken claims that he’s writing a book about teenage abstinence (which isn’t true) and asks Ashcroft to submit a story about abstaining from sex. He also claims to have gotten quotes from a host of other conservatives (also not true), and sent the letter on Harvard stationary (though he didn’t work there anymore).
A month later, Franken sent another letter to Ashcroft apologizing for deceiving him, then presented the whole sordid mess to the press. Now, the question, dear readers, is why a man would do such a thing?
Well, even though it’s an obvious prank that didn’t work out, and a publicity stunt that it turns out he didn’t need, it seems that our friends in the high-tech media lynch-mob couldn’t figure it out. They really think that Franken was a big fat liar.
Let’s say it real slow so that everybody can follow along: Al Franken is a Satirist (that’s like a humorist - I don’t want anybody to get confused). See, that means that a lot of the time he’s kidding. And one of the things that humorists do is play jokes. They try to catch celebrities looking stupid. And when they have a book to sell, they’ll do anything they can to get it in the papers. Even apologize to John Ashcroft.
So if you really don’t want him to succeed, stop putting him in the news every day. Otherwise, you might as well just buy his book. I’m on chapter 13.
