So things have been really weird for me lately. I had surgery a couple weeks ago to correct a really yucky condition that I had. I wasn’t going to mention any of the embarrassing details here, but I’ll probably post something in a few days when I have some distance.
In the meantime, I’ll just blather: I watched the 1995 remake of the 1960 film Village of the Damned last night, which was based on the 1957 novel, The Midwich Cuckoos. Not a great movie, but certainly one that calls out for a sequel.
(They actually made a sequel to the original film in 1964 titled Children of the Damned, but from what I can tell, the less that’s said about that, the better.)
The book and the original film both end with all of the children being blown up, but the remake adds in a kinder, gentler demon/alien/mutant-boy who escapes the slaughter with his mother after learning a little about emotion and empathy. And that’s where the sequel needs to pick up. Heck, you could do a pretty good TV series as well: David, now all grown up, travels the country battling new infestations of the alien hybrids, as well as himself (dun, dun, dun!).
What do you think?

Keith Martin finds a way to make sense of Star Wars by making R2 and Chewie secret agents. (via kottke)
I read a different explanation a few years about about how Obi-Wan and Darth Vader are working to “bring balance to the force” by killing off all of the other Jedi which didn’t require as much guesswork, but this is good too..

Look people, I don’t want to keep hammering away at this, but after looking at the reviews for Serenity, the box office figures are flabbergasting. Critics agree, this is one of the best Sci-Fi movies of all time, and one of the best movies of the year. You just cannot go wrong with this movie.
So go see it.
