“On Novem­ber 4th, we must stand up and say, ‘Eight is Enough.’”

Bar­rack Obama, decid­ing that his his­toric accep­tance speech as the first African Amer­i­can pres­i­den­tial nom­i­nee for a major Amer­i­can party needed a ref­er­ence to a thirty-​year-​old Dick Van Patten sitcom. I would have gone with some­thing a teensy bit more cur­rent like, “…we must stand up and teach the Repub­li­cans the ‘Facts of Life.’”

  1. Maybe he just wanted to ref­er­ence a show that was on the air around the same time that Biden took office.

    At this point, it’s all more like The Gong Show than any­thing else.
