The AP is report­ing that Larry Craig will announce his res­ig­na­tion from the Senate this morn­ing. While I think all repub­li­cans ought to step down on gen­eral prin­ci­ple for the way they’ve screwed this coun­try up, this is ter­ri­ble news. I, for one, would like to see an openly gay man in the Senate, even if it’s a republican.

I guess he must have taken the advice of Patrick Sammon, pres­i­dent of the Log Cabin Repub­li­cans, who says that Craig may not be able to con­tinue serv­ing in the Senate effec­tively. And I guess if Craig is look­ing for advice, that’s a good source. I don’t know anyone more in touch with what it’s like to be a self-​loathing queen than the pres­i­dent of an orga­ni­za­tion ded­i­cated to his own repres­sion and discrimination.

Still, I’d rather that Craig stay in the Senate and come out of the closet. We might have to assign some­body to follow him into the bath­room to keep him out of trou­ble, but it’d be nice watch­ing his fellow repub­li­cans squirm.

1. It’s a shame that we still, at this day in age, let our per­sonal pref­er­ences trans­late to judg­ing someone’s pro­fes­sional abil­i­ties. He should resign if he’s incom­pe­tent at his job, not because he’s a freak in the sheets.

   We’re hyp­ocrites. We love Gins­berg and Wilde yet Clin­ton and this poor fucker are destroyed by the media.

3. Let the man be dia­pered if that makes him happy. This life is too short and too many people are unhappy. Most of our lives will never reg­is­ter in the course of his­tory, who cares if he’s not hurt­ing anyone. Of course, one would hope, a man could sep­a­rate his pri­vate play time from his respon­si­bil­i­ties as a leader…

4. And you’re too intel­li­gent to com­ment on an obvi­ous media blitz like this. You are a nat­ural edu­ca­tor, you should offer us some­thing we won’t find on Digg and reddit. Tan­gle­bones should not give in to the blurred line of cor­rput news topics. For you have seen the depths of a man’s soul and stood proud upon the shoul­ders of democ­racy. From where once you stood as a boy in the thralls of social­ism, you have sur­vived to know the wisdom of father­hood. No man so endowed with such a dis­po­si­tion for logic and com­pas­sion for the meek should turn him­self from the path of enlight­en­ment!
