An Open Letter to Google, RE: Google Reader

Dear Google,

You know, after all of the free services you’ve given me over the years, I have to say that it would be downright ungrateful of me to go telling you about all of the other things you ought to give me. So instead, I’ll ask nicely.

I LOVE Google Reader. I don’t care what anybody thinks; I want the world to know. When I was comparing it to Bloglines, I kept thinking, “Well, it doesn’t have a lot of the features I like – maybe I’ll stick with Bloglines.” I was so wrong.

Not that it has the features I want, mind you. But it works so well, that I don’t care. I feel like I can browse through my feeds so much quicker, and read them so much easier that I don’t care that I can’t view entries grouped by feed. I don’t care that I’m getting duplicate entries. I don’t care that it doesn’t give me any real idea of how many remaining entries I have to read. It is that pleasing to use.

But here’s the thing: I would really appreciate a notifier or two. You guys already have notifiers for Mac and Windows – how hard would it be to add in support for Google Reader?

And have you seen the Bloglines Extension for Firefox? That’s handy. It could use some simplification, but it works wonderfully. I love being able to subscribe to a feed with a right-click. And I love being able to tell not just that I have new entries to be read, but how many there are. So let’s have one of those as well. Cool?

Oh, and port Picasa to the Mac when you get a chance. I’m not happy with iPhoto. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Jemal
